KnowFat Rebrands and Expands

UFood

The Boston Business Journal recently reported news from the KnowFat Lifestyle Grille. In preparation to rollout 800 units nationwide by 2010, the company has rebranded its concept to UFood Grill. While UFood/Knowfat currently has locations in Oakdale, MN, Naples, FL and several in Massachusetts, its plans for growth is based on 8 area developers selling three different franchise opportunities: “a two-in-one food and retail store at about 2,500 square feet; a smaller, 2,000-square-foot model without retail; and a 1,000-square-foot mall food court model” with an initial franchise fee of $35,000. UFood is partnering with George Foreman to help market these franchises. According to the Boston Business Journal, UFood is in its 3rd round of financing and is planning to raise $10-20M.

While I’m excited to see the growth of better-for-you fast food options, I ate at a Knowfat a while ago and was not won over by the taste or quality of their offerings. I hope the new UFood branding will come with delicious food, as well. For more about Knowfat, see the previous post here.

Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe

Camille’s

Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe was started in 1995 to provide a fresh, healthy alternative to greasy mall fast food options. Growing through franchising, the restaurant chain now has over 100 locations in 35 states.

While there are some better-for you options at Camille’s, like the Veganini sandwich with 360 calories and 17 grams of fat and the Red Chicken Chili with 225 calories and 7.5 grams of fat, beware of the 1,000 calorie Camille’s Club.
